A big thanks to all our recent volunteers and contributors and those attending public
The Local Election was held on Thursday 5 May. The Denby site is in the Kennington Ward. Although the Labour candidates won, the biggest change in votes at the election was for the Green Party. Whilst SLW remained politically neutral during the campaign it is notable that the Green Party - who campaigned actively for the sustainable alternative showed the largest increase in votes (a doubling of the share of votes) across the three wards in the north of Lambeth. And two of the candidates were SLW activists who had withdrawn for SLW activity for the duration of the campaign. This is evidence that for local voters Denby was a factor.
Although the new Labour Ward Councillors did not oppose the Denby scheme at planning we believe the election of a new administration is an opportunity for review. The main sponsors of HfL (including Matthew Bennett) stood down at the election and HfL is one of the top risk factors in the Council's risk register -so HfL's approach may be reviewed internally. WE RECOMMEND MAKING YOUR VIEWS SUPPORTING A SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVE KNOWN TO ALL THE NEW COUNCILLORS
ALSO - the scheme has implications for a range of policies:
When the portfolio holders are known please contact them about the adverse impacts of the HfL proposed scheme compared to the sustainable alternative.
